Dr. Ellen K. Rudolph left a message on April 1, 2020:
Cassy, I very much appreciate your kind note about Phyllis’ death at the age of ninety. And the links to her obituary. I had actually been thinking of Phyllis around the first of this year, wondering how she was doing. I retired to coastal South Carolina two and a half years ago. As you may know, she and I went back a great many years. Phyllis was actually one of my earliest and most ardent “students” of family systems. We had many memorable telephone conversations over the years on wide-ranging topics, and often she would send me Daily Press news clippings about local politics that she knew I would be interested in knowing about. And, of course, we always talked about her family. It therefore pleases me that family was with her when she died. We should all be so lucky... The loss of our mothers is always a significant loss, no matter where or when it happens. Rest in peace, dear Phyllis.

Mike and I were volunteers with CASA when it was first started in Newport News. She was a dedicated teacher and appreciated everything her volunteers accomplished. When challenges arose, she sent us down the right path. She was always there for us and always stood up for us. We were proud to have known her. Jo-Ann
