Margaret Catherine Powers, known as “Cathy” to friends and family, was born in Tennessee on November 9, 1941 to Clifford Sr. and Velma Shelton. Cathy was a retired youth counselor and avid volunteer. She enjoyed volunteering often with Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s Lifestyle Center and Chesapeake Jail Ministries. In addition to volunteering, Cathy loved Blue Grass music and her dog “Lil Man”. Most recently, Cathy enjoyed being a great-grandmother or “Gi-Gi” to her great granddaughter, Naomi. Cathy passed away peacefully on July 11, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Calvin “Bo” Powers; brother, J.C. Shelton; and husband of 54 years, Buddy.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Powers Porter and son-in-law, Herbert Porter; grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, and Oxmar; in-laws, Carolyn and Charles Beltcher; great grandchild, Naomi Leigh Lopez; and several nieces and nephews. Cathy also leaves behind her friends at CRMC’s Lifestyle Center and South Mills Church of Christ.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 3:00 PM at South Mills Church of Christ officiated Ron in Camden County, NC. “Sweets & Treats” to follow the service. A private burial will take place at a later date.
