When dealing with the loss of a loved one.. handing all the affairs is never easy.. but Katie and her staff were beyond amazing!!! They took such good care of my identical twin sister (who passed) and kept her safe and treated her with respect and dignity. They explained the process of everything in great detail and answered any questions that I had in such a timely manner. They were so gentle and kind to me and my family as well. During such a sad time for our family, thinking about how to handle the next steps was very difficult. I don’t normally leave reviews, but after the excellent service I received I felt I should. The owner was very accommodating and understanding when I brought my mother in to have her cremated. He explained that I would have to take her to the coroner first and then they would bring her directly to the crematorium. He even helped me load her back into my car. When they were done burning her corpse they called me right away. I didn’t want to pay extra for an urn and they were fine with just putting her ashes into a Tupperware container I provided them. They said my mother was very easy to cremate which was nice to hear. If I could leave a 6 star review, I would.

Irma helped me through the heartache and pain of losing my mother by going out of her way to make sure I was comfortable making all decisions. You see I was not treated very nice by the Greek Orthodox priest when I called him concerning the services. I was disappointed by my Greek relatives as well but Irma asked me what did my mother want? Mom was Greek and very close to God but she believed that cremation was the easiest on the family and that it didn’t matter if we leave the body because as she said “death is the beginning of our new a beautiful life”! I’m so happy I met Irma for she truly cares about her clients! She has the patience of a saint cause I was saying a lot of “f bombs” lol! I used the VA Cremation Society for my dad in 1997 and they handle everything from picking your loved one up to sending the death certificate to Social Security. Those two ladies that came and got my mom were so professional but so human too!! I wanted to hug them!!

I have now had two wonderful experiences with Cremation Society of Virginia for both my mother & father. During a very difficult time, they have been very compassionate, understanding, & helpful. They were never pushy about purchasing products, & arranged for my father's VA flag for his service in the Navy, & communicated with Arlington National Cemetery on my behalf to start arrangements for the internment in a niche there.

The Cremation Society of Virginia handled the cremations of my parents in 2004 and now 8 years later, is handling the cremation of my younger brother. On each occurrence, CSOV has been so helpful, thoughtful, and guiding as I have had to take care of my family members. Today, Lauren Thorne was my councilor and she did everything I asked of her and more. I must also give a shout out to Katie who started the process yesterday by initiating the final steps on my brother's behalf.

I have one more brother and when the time comes for him to depart and if I am still living, CSOV will be my 1st call.

This Creamation Society needs , all of the Thank you's and every kind word in the Dictionary to describe how well they and all of their employees handle family members and loved one's at a time of absolute hurt, desperation, shame due to the lack of, embarrassment , nervousness, and so much more, we was blessed to be in the company of a lady name Katy B. , that work for this outstanding place and she was amazing along with a couple of her co-workers, my husband and i was at a terrible lost when he suddenly lost his brother, no burial insurance or money put away in case of emergency nada, nothing, we both speak English however, no word's of how to do or handle this did not exist until we met Katy B. at the Cremation Society of Virginia, 5 Star Service. Lauren helped so much with explaining the process and guiding us through selecting what we wanted for our mothers cremation. It's very clear she cares about anyone that walks through the door or calls her. She was very delicate about our situation and was more than accommodating. Any question was given an answer and there were no grey areas like so many other places. No one enjoys planning a funeral but she made it a smooth process for us and made it simple. We knew when our papers were ready, we were offered items we didnt know were out there and she was on the ball letting us know the status of the remains. She was gentle with my mothers remains and I couldnt have asked for a better outcome with them. This isn't something any of us want to go through but we will at some point, go to Lauren, she will take care of you and your loved ones.

Lauren Thorne was a wonderful help to our family after our mother's passing. She was thoughtful, kind, and patient as we went through the process of making decisions. I had never chosen cremation for a loved one before and didn’t know where to begin. Eddie at Cremation Society of VA made all the difference. As my husband and I had been making end-of-life arrangements, we both decided we wanted to donate our bodies for research. We contacted the Anatomical Society of Virginia to make arrangements; we were told we should have a backup plan with a funeral establishment. Therefore, we met with a representative of a reputable funeral home very close to home to discuss our needs and, having used a cremation society for a family death in another state, we researched the Cremation Society of Virginia online. On the surface, that appeared to be the better of the two for our needs. I then spoke with Katie Brower at the Virginia Beach office. How helpful she has been. Most of our exchanges have been done through email; there has been no need to go into an office. Ms. Brower has patiently and pleasantly answered all our questions, guided us through the few bits of paperwork, and, now, a week later, we have the policy and contract we want in hand. I couldn't have asked for anyone better that Ms. Brower to work with. On top of that, the price was less than half of what was quoted by the other establishment we contacted. Eddie and his staff were of GREAT help in our difficult time. Our family pre-planned for my mother when she fell ill a few months prior. Unfortunately, she passed a lot sooner than we were anticipating. They never tried to talk us into services we didn't need or desire. So glad we planned ahead Job well done gentlemen, and a heartfelt thank you.

Past experience

My sibling passed away in June . The suddenness was overwhelming as well as devastating. My family and I interviewed three Crematories and were very content with our decision to go with Cremation Society of Virginia Hampton Roads. We met with Katie Brower and felt right at ease with her calm demeanor . We stated what we wanted and to please claim our family member's remains from the morgue as soon as possible. Katie was never pushy and always available to answer our questions and concerns. We had an informal viewing which was overseen by Larry to say our "final goodbye" and were so pleased to see our sibling look as if "they were sleeping peacefully" . We knew we had made the perfect decision to have our family member treated with the dignity and respect they deserved. We are so grateful to Katy, Larry and Cremation Society of VA - Hampton Roads for their support and compassion .

What would typically have been an extremely hard experience was made very easy thanks to the professionalism, knowledge and just plain kindness shown by Christy Crews. We walked into your office dreading the task at hand and walked out with such a sense of relief that arrangements were in your more than capable hands. Thank you so very much.

They helped us put together a beautiful and personalized service for my sister which accurately captured who she was, and the reasons she was loved.

Christy and the rest of her staff were very professional and caring about our needs when our son passed. They went above and beyond when it came to the obituary and making last-minute changes. They treated us like family and we consider them family.

Despite knowing they were going i didn't think to make arrangements ahead of time.
Mom passed early in the morning and within a short time of notifying Cremation Society of my need, staff members arrived to take care of mom and Christy came to me so i didn't have to leave my father during his last hours.
Christy Crewes made the paperwork and decisions I needed to make as painless as possible while allowing me to be near my dad.
Both my parents were WWII veterans and the Cremation Society honor them as such that when they transported them they had placed an American flag over them.
Once arrangements were made for their burial, I let Christy know and on the day of their service their cremains were at the church. One less thing for me to be concerned with.
I chose to have a glass pendant made with mom and dads ashes- it is beautiful and i wear it 24/7.
I find when i get stressed I unconsciously rub the pendant and remember my parents.
