Andrea Joy Moore

May 26, 1955 - August 5, 2021

Andrea was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1955, and immigrated to the United States in 1967 with her late mother, Kathleen, and brothers, Louis and Donald.

She attended Bronx High School of Science in New York and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. She was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Her posts included Tampa, Korea and Belgium. She retired from the military in 1996 and began a second career at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. She retired from the university in 2020 as accounts payable and general accounting manager.

Andrea was artistic and loved to create and repurpose unique pieces for her home. She was an avid jogger and later on, a committed walker, refusing to be deterred by inclement weather or infirmity.

Andrea was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Kathleen Moore. She is survived by her brothers, Louis (Waveney Ann) and Donald (Christine); nieces, Andrea Natasha (David), Crystal (Andy) and Ashley; great nephews and great nieces; and devoted friends.

A tribute to her life will be announced at a later date.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.

I met Andrea 40 years ago and we have been friends since that day. Her radiant smile kept the sun shining around her and you felt her glow. We were fortunate to be stationed at 2 bases together. Over the years we were separated by miles and distance but our connection stayed strong. She will missed and forever in my heart. The last words I said to her a week ago were Luv ya and that will never change. Rest in Peace my sister

It's hard to believe her shining light and bright smile is gone, we were fortunate to have her smile and light with us for many years and I will cherish those memories forever.

So sorry to hear of Andrea's passing. We were her neighbors for the past 2 years. I will miss our passing each other in the mornings as we walked. On those mornings that I thought it was "too cold" or raining and decided NOT to walk, there was Andrea out there making her trek around the neighborhood. Rest in Peace sweet neighbor.
