Rita Evelyn Wool passed away on Sunday November 14, 2021. Evelyn was born February 20, 1934, in Strathmore, Alberta, Canada. The youngest of seven children of May and William Risdon, she emigrated to the United States in 1955 following graduation as a nurse. She lived in Spokane, Washington and Phoenix, Arizona before settling in Virginia.
Evelyn’s forty-four-year nursing career was varied. She was a nurse in the United States Army including a tour of duty in Korea. She held Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner certificates from the University of Virginia, BSN, and MSN degrees from Medical College of Virginia. She was employed with the Virginia State Health Department for fourteen years, lastly in Portsmouth. Evelyn was co-founder and president of Home Care Resources, a home health agency which merged with In Home Health, a national company in 1993, now known as Heartland. She stayed on as General Manager until her retirement in 1999.
Evelyn enjoyed painting, gardening, playing bridge, reading, and traveling. She will be remembered as a good friend and neighbor, a lover of animals, but mostly for her sense of humor.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband John E. Wool Jr., her parents and all her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews both in Canada and Virginia.
Locally, her sister-in-law Jane K. Eilertsen (Jim). Two nieces, Anne Sidney Jordan (Gene) and Toddy Burt (Steve), and a nephew, Jack Wool (Somer). A cousin Joe Wool (Debbie) and Sally Wool Pearson (Fred).
A graveside service will be Saturday, November 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia.
