Frank L. Overstreet

August 14, 1959 - December 7, 2021

Frank L. Overstreet of Newport News, VA, always said, “When it’s time to go, it’s time to go” and it was his time on 7 December 2021, after a 25-year animus with congestive heart failure.

Frank retired from the United States Navy as an Operations Specialist First Class after serving for more than 21-years, most proudly on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. After retirement he worked in information technology for several companies including ESI.

Frank was a beacon of his neighborhood, Beaconsdale. Neighbors and passers-by knew if the garage door was up they would be greeted by a wave, a shout-out or a “How we doing?” This bright lookout will forever be missed.

Frank is survived by his beloved Tanya Sweet; his daughter, A’Delia Watkins; grandchildren, Diamond Overstreet and Maurice Watkins; sister, Dasdy Jones; brother-in-law, Kevin Jones; nephews, Kevin, Jr. and Fredric; the Sweet family, and friends.

My man, Frank. I have this very clear memory of you in a black leather jacket and sunglasses. I can't say exactly why or how that is the image I have in my mind, but I am so glad it is. The jacket and the glasses, accompanied by a grin and a chuckle. In an incredibly white space, Frank was maybe the only black adult i ever spoke to in The Ferg, thats not easily forgotten. I was always interested if Frank had seen any of the plays or musicals, I know I drove Tanya crazy asking. I think MAYBE he watched one act of Chicago. What I love and will remember most about Frank is how happy he made Tanya. I'll never forget you Frank.

Remembering the good times we shared at ESI and the Shipyard... rest in peace my friend...

Thoughts and prayers with Tanya, her family and with Frank’s family. We had the privilege of meeting Frank at Brenda and Doug’s 4th of July party in NH. I remember how he loved life and Tanya. I also remember that when he visited NH in winter and want to take go snowmobiling to experience the fun of riding in the snow. Appreciate Frank’s service to our country! God Bless!

Oh, Frank. You were a fantastic cook and storyteller; I only met you once but enjoyed your company. Tanya: he leaves a hole in your heart but hopefully plenty of good memories to help fill the gap. My condolences to his family and friends.

Frank look so handsome all dressed up. He will be missed at our family gatherings. My heart goes out to Tanya. RIP.

So many Frank-memories: Frank playing backyard Thanksgiving football, taking wonderful care of Aunt Joyce and Uncle Jack, eating his amazing ribs and ham and peas, Christmas mornings - oh, Frank, you are missed.

RIP old Friend

Although I knew Frank only a short time, he made a big impression on me as being a good man, and treated the people he cared about well. I will miss his smiling face and his great breakfasts he would prepare when ever Robert and I visited!!! My heart and prayers go out to all of his family and friends!🙏🙏🙏
