John Crane, 78, passed away on January 7, 2022 in Virginia Beach. He was born May 3, 1943 to the late Thomas and Marie Crane. He was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty Catholic High School.
John proudly served his country in the US Navy as an Aviation Ordinanceman. He served on every commissioned aircraft carrier up to 1985 and drew call in every free port in the world. He was once the senior-most E6 in the US Navy. John was airlifted under cover of darkness from Norfolk to Key West for the Bay of Pigs Invasion, pushed planes off the deck of the USS Forestall during that disaster, and went on special ordinance missions out of the Gulf of Tonkin during Vietnam.
He loved his wife dearly and took care of his kids in times of need. He was a patriot, well-versed in politics, a staunch conservative, smart man, and he served his country and family well. He was the kindest, most lovable person ever known.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Patricia Crane, whom he loved unconditionally; step-sons: Scott, Todd, and Kenny; siblings: Michael, Jimmy, and Clare.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Thalia Lynn Baptist Church.
