George James Zetts passed away on February 18, 2022 in Williamsburg, VA. He was born in Bradford, PA on May 2, 1927 of parents, George Joseph and Laura Jane (Bennett) Zetts. After graduating from St. Bernard’s High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 17th birthday and served in the amphibious forces in the South Pacific during World War II.
Upon leaving the Navy while attending the University of Maryland, he became employed in the medical field of orthotics and became a Board-Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist. He opened his own practice, making and fitting braces and splints under a doctor’s orders for people who needed added support for body parts that had been weakened by injury, disease, or disorders of the nerves, muscles, or bones.
After 32 years in orthotics, he retired to Columbia, NC where he served as president of Prime Health Products, owner of the Lynn James Company, and founder of the Taylor Beach Club.
George was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was president and hunt master of the Big Entry Hunt Club in the Great Dismal Swamp; vice president and hunt master of the Lively Hunt Club in Lively, VA; and stockholder in the Cavalier Hunt Club in Chesapeake, VA.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Frances Clevinger Zetts of Newport News, VA; two daughters, Laura Winter (and husband Gary) and Cathy Zetts; two sons, David Zetts and Keith Zetts; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
