NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Carlos Issac Lopez Torres Jr. passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his father’s home in Newport News, VA. He was 22 years old.

Carlos was born on Monday, November 29, 1999, around 9:30PM, in Manhattan, New York, at Bellevue Hospital Center, to parents Ana S. Lopez, née Torres, and Carlos A. Lopez Sr. He was delivered by Dr. Radmila Runic.

Throughout his life, Carlos was a big fan of music, including but definitely not limited to Nirvana and Rex Orange County. He was a big fan of anime, namely Dragon Ball and Naruto, which he expressed extensively through his art. One of his greatest talents was his passion for art, he began with line drawings of characters from various animes, as well as some original characters of his own. Eventually, this would become using a drawing tablet to create digital art, he had expressed a wish to work on a manga in his last days, which, unfortunately, never came to pass. One of his other talents was cooking, Carlos loved cooking, and had developed major skills which he put to use throughout his life. His last job was as a prep cook, as well. Carlos cared deeply for his family, friends, and younger brother, who he always wished the best for. He attended Woodside High School, but needed to graduate from an online school when COVID-19 hit. Carlos is a 2021 graduate of the Penn Foster Online High School Diploma program.

Carlos is survived by his loving parents, one younger brother, four first cousins, two second cousins, his first cousins once removed, Ernesto and Maria Veronica, and their parents, his maternal great-aunt and great-uncle, Amalia and Luis Nevarez, all of Newport News, VA. One other cousin, Maria Victoria, of Los Angeles, CA. His maternal grandmother, Elvira Cecilia Carpio De La Cruz, of Madrid, Spain. His paternal grandparents, Gloria Marin and Mario Lopez, his maternal grandfather, Jacinto Torres, his maternal aunt, Fatima Torres, all of New York City. One paternal aunt and uncle, Isabel Lopez and Robert Hernandez, of Stroudsburg, PA. And his beloved 3-years-old tabby cat, Sherbet, now in the care of his younger brother.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Ana Elizabeth de La Cruz, who cared for him all her life, on July 7, 2021.

A private viewing was held at the discretion of the family.  memorial service will be held sometime in May, at his brother’s church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Hiden Boulevard, Fr. Kyle C. Mackey officiating. Flowers may be brought.

Cremation Society of Virginia has handled the arrangements.
