U.S. Navy Retiree GSE1 Ernest Ray Kitchen, age 61, residing in Ocean View Norfolk, Virginia passed away on March 28, 2023, peacefully in his sleep. Ernest was born on April 3, 1961, grew up in South Carolina and served honorably in the U. S. Navy for 20 years. His last duty station was at Assault Craft Unit 4 (ACU4) at Little Creek Amphibious Base. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Caroline Kitchen and his brother David.

Survivors include the love of his life and wife, Joy Marie; his two beautiful daughters, Melissa (Moe) Ross and Marlena (Head) Gillum; Grandchildren Graig, Jess, Aubree, James, and Chole; His stepfamily is Brain Paul and Shae Bishop; and his sister Becky and her family, Todd, Justin, and Lauren Anne Harrison. 

Ernest was a loving husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He was loyal and generous.  Ernest loved life like only he could. He lived on his on terms – Good, bad, or indifferent.  Earnest loved good music and getting together with family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the Ocean View Democratic & Social Club – 9615 Granby St, Norfolk – on 30 April 2023 from 1 – 3 PM. All are welcome to attend.
