Starla Taylor Tignor, 73, entered life eternal on April 20, 2023. Starla, daughter of John and Ethel Taylor, was born and raised in Richmond, VA and moved to Virginia Beach, VA in 1974. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Billy Taylor (Pat) and her nephew Jimmy Pulley.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Geoffrey Channing Filer (Shannon) and Lori Suzanne Filer (Dean McGaughey IV); her two step-children, Tiffany T. Reid and Jeffrey B. Tignor; and as she would tell you, her perfect, beautiful and smart grandchildren, Braxton H. Wallace, Jackson C. Filer, Mason H. Reid, Wynter Olivia Wallace, Isabella J. Filer, Lucille E. Tignor, Lillian M. Tignor and a bonus grand babe, Grace Carpenter, her former husband and father of her children, Howard O. Filer (Sandra, raising the masses together), her sister-in-law Pat and niece Donna and family, and through marriage, her extended Tignor and May family, her cousin Suzanne Jeter Coats (Bill), who was more like a sister than a cousin, and numerous other family members and special friends.
Starla graduated from Hermitage High School in 1968, she was a bookkeeper by trade. She had a heartwarming love for music, singing and dancing, often embarrassing her children with her version of “opera”. A love for birds, gardening, and her dog babies. She was steady in her Christian faith and believed in the power of prayer. She was a wonderful neighborhood mom to all the kids in Pembroke Meadows; swim meets and little league baseball were never to be missed. An avid tennis player and high school cheerleader, Starla loved sports. Ever the cheerleader, she continued to cheer until the end for all her grand babes’ sporting events. You could find her lately all bundled up in a hoodie and a blanket at baseball and soccer fields.
April is “donate life month” and Starla believed strongly in paying it forward. In her memory; the family would like you to consider donating to LifeNet organization, learn about organ donation or perhaps plant something in your yard that you can grow with love.
Mom, Starla, Mina; your work here is complete and we will carry on with amazing memories, lessons, and stories to last our lifetime. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
