Marcia Clarke Wheeler passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21st in Virginia Beach. She was born on January 5, 1938 to Richard and Gertrude Clarke of Jamestown, Rhode Island. She was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, RI and attended the Norfolk division of the College of William & Mary, now known as Old Dominion University. Marcia married Capt. E. Stanley Wheeler II on April 28, 1962. They had one child, daughter Dana, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage before Stan’s passing in 2019.
Throughout her life Marcia was very active in her community, as a member, volunteer and supporter of Meals on Wheels, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, the Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary Board, the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show and MOCA, Volunteer Rescue Squad Station 14 and the Bay Colony Garden Club to name a few. She was also recently honored for her many decades of service to her beloved Galilee Episcopal Church. Marcia was devoted to her family. The kitchen was her happy place, and she was an excellent cook. She expressed her love through food – her cheese straws were always a welcome gift at Christmas. Marcia was an avid reader and loved to garden and play Bridge as well.
Marcia was predeceased by her husband Stan and her six brothers and sisters – Spencer, Bruce, Richard, Kathryn, Suzanne, and Donald. She is survived by her daughter Dana, her grandson Nicholas, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
