Kurt David Crist, 63, passed away April 29, 2023. Kurt was born January 30,1960 in Bowling Green Ohio to Carrol Allison and the late Howard Crist.
Kurt joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 serving on the USS Blandy. Kurt received the Battle E: Navy Expeditionary; Sea Service Ribbon and received an honorable discharge as an E-5 Boiler Technician in 1981.
Kurt went on to be a Boiler Operator for the Navy Public Works Center, now known as NAVFAC MID Atlantic. During his career he earned many promotions and awards including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He retired after 37 1/2 years having earned the title of Commodity Branch Manager. In 2000 Kurt earned his National Board Boiler Inspection Commission “A” Endorsement and “R” Endorsement. He began inspecting part time and once retired full time with American Boiler Inspection Services Inc. and Tidewater Immediate Inspections Inc. He very much enjoyed and respected his fellow inspectors. Kurt loved everything about steam. He loved passing his knowledge onto others. He was active in the American Society of Powers Engineers Inc. and was on both the National and Regional boards and maintained a Chief license. Kurt cherished assisting good friend Carroll Hooper, Steam Solutions Inc. in instructing classes to promote knowledge and safety in the industry. He was a member of The Virginia Boiler & Pressure Vessels Inspectors and served as president for many years.
During his off time, Kurt loved cruising and traveling with his wife Judy and also enjoyed his weekly golf outings with The OGs at the OV. Kurt was a very loyal fan of The Ohio State football team, a passion he learned at an early age from his Uncle Jim and Aunt Barbara Miller. He loved the time he could spend with family, especially enjoying the time spent with his precious granddaughter Grace.
Kurt was predeceased by his father Howard A Crist. He is survived by his wife Judy, his mother Carrol Allison, his daughters Colleen Nicholes of South Carolina and Chelsea McClintock, son in-law David McClintock, granddaughter Grace McClintock all of North Carolina, his brother Michael Crist of Ohio and a host of family, adopted family and friends. An Interment of Kurt’s ashes will take place on a future date in Arlington National Cemetery.
