A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ralph Fred “Bud” Weidner, 99 years young, of Virginia Beach, VA died on June 7, 2024.
Bud was born on November 2, 1924 in Milwaukee, WI to Margaret and Charles Weidner. He served in the US Army during World War II. He went to college with the GI Bill studying Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin. He was married to Louise Jessie Poppy for 57 years.
Bud and Louise (Poppy) had four children: Charles Harry, Nancy Louise, Lynn Margaret, and Ralph Jack. They lived in Milwaukee WI, Hopkins MN, Richardson TX, Bramalea Ontario Canada, Chagrin Falls OH, Cold Brook NY, and Virginia Beach VA.
When they both retired Bud loved travelling around the globe with Poppy, visiting every continent except Antarctica. However, their favorite role was as grandparents to their eleven grandchildren.
Bud will always be remembered for his love of Poppy and the children, as well as seeming to know everything- he was often called “an encyclopedia of useless knowledge”. We couldn’t have asked for a better parent/grandparent, and will miss Papa every day. Bud’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Louise, Doris Tupper and Joyce Danowski (sisters), Lynn Kochersperger (daughter), Colin Weidner and Kyle Reeves (grandsons), and he is survived by children Charles Weidner, Nancy Reeves, and Jack Weidner, nine grandchildren and two great grandsons.
A service to remember Bud and celebrate his life will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 4200 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 am.
