Neil Hampton Mays passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, in Newport News, Virginia at the age of 92. He was born in Danville, Virginia on July 3,1931 to Wade and Susie Mays.

He is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Following his graduation, Neil joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as 1st Lieutenant, Air Transportation Officer, earning the Korean Service, U.N. Service, and National Defense Service Medals and was honorably discharged in November 1955.

He retired from Corning Glass Works as an Operations Manager, in Corning, New York, after thirty-six years of employment, in 1992. In 2005, he moved to Yorktown, VA. Neil & Elaine Mays were snowbirds, residing in North Port, Florida during the winter months, from 1993 – 2023.

Neil is preceded in death by his parents, Wade & Susie Mays and his brother, Carlton Mays. Neil is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Elaine; daughters, Suzanne (Kevin) Williams of Candor, NY, Vicky (Bob) Wheeler of Yorktown, VA, and Connie Chester of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Katy Evans, Sarah Whiting, Scott Williams, Kyle Pelchy, Alexia Chester, Ryan Chester and great grandchildren, Brice Williams, River Evans, Stori Evans and Jace Williams.

A memorial in celebration of his life will be held at the Northside Christian Church, 1300 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, VA 23693 on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
