Steven Randall James, 72, of Newport News, VA, passed away on August 8th, 2024, at home surrounded by family and friends after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1952 in Meyersdale, PA, to Beatrice Yvonne “Bonnie” and William Braden James, Steve grew up with a passion for music that defined his life and career.
A devoted father, Steve leaves behind his beloved children, Isabella Yvonne James of Yorktown, VA, and Dillon Randall James of Deer Park, MD. He is also survived by his brother, Michael C. James, his aunt, Ada B. Saylor and cousin, Lynette Saylor all of Newport News, VA.
Steve was a gifted musician, singer, and songwriter whose career spanned more than five decades and took him from Pennsylvania to Hampton Roads and the San Francisco Bay Area. His talent and dedication to his craft touched the lives of many.
In recent years, Steve found solace and strength in his faith, dedicating himself to spiritual growth and forgiveness. This journey brought him peace and a deeper connection to those around him.
A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on August 20th, 2024 at the Hampton Campus of Liberty Baptist Church in the Chapel at 11 am.
Steve will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
