Leroy Lovett, Jr. 83, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Leroy was born on August 13, 1941 to Leroy Lovett, Sr. and Willie Mae Veale Lovett in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Leroy Lovett, Jr. graduated from I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. He served in the United States Army and studied at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, California. He retired from McCormick & Company, Inc. in Salinas, California. His hobbies included competitive adult tennis leagues, fishing, watching his Oakland Raiders football team and Golden State Warriors basketball team, movies and popcorn, and enjoying life especially a good rainy day and being the comedian of the family.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Lovett, Sr. and Willie May Veale Lovett, two sisters, Constance Delores Lovett and Gwendolyn Denise Lovett Hall.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Mary Stewart Bowser Lovett of 14 years; one daughter, Sidney Michele Lovett Hunter of San Ramon, California and two sons, Leslie Pierre Lovett (Dawn) of Arizona, Lendel Steven Lovett of Charlotte, North Carolina. Leroy is survived by his siblings, Willard Nathaniel Lovett (Mary); Ronald Steven Lovett (Gloria); Louise Litreal Lovett (Henry); one special grandson Ronald Louis Hunter, II and one great granddaughter, Sevyn Aaliyah Michele Hunter; a Godson Timon Richardson, an aunt, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Leroy was a man who cherished his family and friends deeply, holding them close to his heart throughout his life.
One of his many favorite scriptures: Love one another. – John 15:17
Love is a quality of the heart, or the inner person, and no human can see into our heart, only God knows our heart condition. May we all continue to imitate our heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
