With hearts full of love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Tila K. Baskin, who departed this life on June 28, 2025, at the age of 39.
Tila was born on July 19, 1985, to Henry Baskin, Jr. and the late Florine Hye. A devoted daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, Tila’s vibrant spirit, boundless curiosity, and fierce love left a lasting imprint on everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
Tila’s greatest pride and joy was her daughter, T’Kaiya Johnson, whom she cherished beyond measure. She also leaves behind her loving father, Henry Baskin, Jr., and her devoted sisters: Folanda (Dante) Walston, Cherine Hye, Sonja Baskin, and Amore (Laquea) Baskin-Hines.
She was a beloved aunt to Kira Walston, Chantel Donaldson, Nataya Walston, Shae Walston, Shanice Weatherspoon, LaMonte Smith, Dominique Allen, Elijah Weatherspoon, Laquea Hines, and Yashar’El Hines. Her love also extended to her three great-nieces and two great-nephews, who brought her endless joy.
Tila loved deeply and lived fully. Whether she was gathered with family, cooking up something delicious, immersed in her coloring and painting, or catching up on the latest fashion trends, she brought passion and personality to everything she did. She was inquisitive and wise, always excited to share a new discovery, article, or idea that captured her curiosity.
Tila’s faith anchored her life. She loved God and studied His word with dedication, drawing strength and purpose from her spiritual walk. Her bold spirit, quick wit, and willingness to engage in a spirited debate earned her the affectionate title of “firecracker” among those who knew her best—and loved her for it.
A celebration of Tila’s life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, located at 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. We welcome all who knew and loved her to join us as we honor her legacy, her love, and her light.
Though her time with us feels far too short, the impact of her life, laughter, and love will remain with us always.
