Frances Beatty Rhees passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in Virginia Beach. Born in Henrico county, Virginia, she embraced life with grace and fortitude, touching many hearts along her journey.
Frances led a life filled with love, dedication, and community service. As a devoted military wife, she supported her husband, Bernard Rhees, throughout his career, gracefully navigating the challenges and adventures that came with being part of a military family. Her role as a real estate agent further exemplified her strength and determination, allowing her to connect with others and help them find their own sense of home.
Throughout her life, Frances was an active member and leader within her community, serving as President of the Army Wives Club and participating in the Officers’ Wives Club. She found joy in camaraderie and shared experiences, forming lifelong friendships with those who walked similar paths.
A woman of many interests, Frances enjoyed the thrill of playing bridge, the joy of singing, and the warmth of sharing a glass of bourbon with friends and family. Her laughter and spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
A dedicated member of Baylake United Methodist Church, Frances’s faith was a source of comfort and strength, particularly in her later years when health issues prevented her from attending regularly.
Frances was preceded in death by her loving parents, Edgar and Elizabeth Beatty, and her cherished husband of 70 years, Bernard Rhees, who passed away three years ago. She is survived by her three children, William Rhees (Brenda), Richard Rhees (Joanne), and Sally Thorbjornsson (Thor), as well as ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who continue to carry forward her legacy of love and resilience.
In keeping with her wishes, Frances will be laid to rest privately. Her family invites those who knew her to celebrate her life on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Westminster Canterbury at 10:00 am. A small reception will be held at Sally’s home following.
