Martha Alice Grijalva, affectionately known to all as Marti, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, in her birthplace of Norfolk, VA. Born on June 15, 1940, Marti lived a remarkable 85 years filled with creativity, entrepreneurship, and love for her family.
A spirited entrepreneur, Marti carved out her niche in the world of balloon making and decorating. Her imaginative flair and dedication transformed countless occasions into vibrant celebrations, leaving lasting impressions of joy in the hearts of many.
Marti’s journey took her from the familiar shores of Norfolk to the beautiful landscapes of Coastal California, where she spent many enriching years before returning to Hampton Roads in the 1980s. Her return marked the beginning of a new chapter, where she continued to share her talents and touch lives with her unique artistry and warm spirit.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Linwood and Mary Drake, and her husband, Henry Grijalva, Marti leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Glenn Pasiliao; her treasured grandchildren, Malea and Jesiah; and her significant partner, Leslie Scarbrow, who stood by her side with unwavering support and affection.
Marti’s life was a testament to the power of creativity and resilience. Her enduring spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, inspiring those she leaves behind to continue celebrating life’s colorful moments with the same passion and enthusiasm she embodied every day.
