Portsmouth, VA – Patricia Carol Johnson Richardson-Hite, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, July 7, 2025, in Portsmouth, Virginia, at the age of 76. Born on May 7, 1949, in Petersburg, Virginia, Patricia lived a life filled with love, compassion, and joy.
Patricia dedicated her career to caring for others as a nurse at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA, and Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life, as she was known for her unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
A woman of deep faith, Patricia was as active as she could be in her last months to Grove Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA. She found great joy in dancing and watching her children dance, often sharing these moments with her loved ones. Her interests also included spending time at the beach, creating diamond art paintings, and surrounding herself with music and positive energy.
Patricia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hansford Wayne Hite, and her parents, Fletcher Patterson Johnson, Jr. and Margaret Louise Ferguson Johnson. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: two sons, Richard Lawrence Richardson, III of Danville, VA, and William Jeffrey Richardson of Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Amy Tennille Burns of Portsmouth, VA who cared for her until the end; and an adopted daughter, Anya Dibrel Barboza of Carrolton, VA. Patricia was a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren: April Lynn Richardson, Taylor Nicole Richardson, Jaylin Dibrel Burns, Azelyn Nichole Richardson, Kaylee Paige Richardson, and Ian Wayne Hite.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 11:00 am at Grove Baptist Church, 5910 W. Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, VA, with Dr. Melvin O. Marriner, Senior Pastor, officiating. The Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family during this difficult time.
