Maria N Staples, 75 went to sleep peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.

Maria was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Maria had a special place in her heart for animals. Throughout the years, she enjoyed the company of several dogs and cats. Maria was a collector of porcelain dolls and other fine things. When her health allowed, she was able to participate in the door to door ministry, helping others to know about the wonderful future that Jehovah God has promised us. Maria’s hope was to live on a paradise earth forever and this hope sustained her until she closed her eyes and went to sleep. She believed in the resurrection and she knew that Jehovah would not promise something that he could not fulfill. (Revelation 21:3, 4) She was able to attend her Christian meetings if not in person on Zoom, and we loved hearing Maria express her conviction and hope at our Christian meetings.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two sisters, Denice Nayani and Cecilia (Tessa) Nelson. She also leaves her spiritual Christian family, the Buckroe congregation that mourn her death and we will miss her deeply.

The family wishes to thank all that had a share in helping Maria through her difficult days with her declining health. The family would also like to acknowledge Sentara Careplex for their attentiveness to Maria while in their care. They also appreciate the many prayers, phone calls, or text messages that they have received during this difficult time.
