Arthur E. Tooze, Jr., lovingly known as “Buddy,” passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Rockville Centre, NY, Buddy grew up in Carle Place, Long Island, where he graduated from Carle Place High School. He went on to attend Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, on a football scholarship, forging lifelong friendships and memories.
Buddy was the son of Arthur E. Tooze, Sr. (“Colonel”) and Mary Jane (“Molly”) Tooze, both of whom predeceased him. He built a successful career as an investment banker and eventually retired to enjoy the simpler pleasures of life.
Best known for his love of gardening and his boundless ability to connect with people—for his many phone conversations, as well as those too, with neighbors and friends in the driveway—Buddy brought warmth, sincerity, and humor wherever he went.
He is preceded in death by many dear loved ones, most especially his beloved daughter, Kerri Lynn (KL), who, as many who knew him believe, was likely the very first to greet him in his passing.
Buddy is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia M. Tooze (“Ginny”), and a wide network of extended family and friends far too numerous to name—but all of whom were touched by his kindness and generosity of spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Buddy’s memory to:
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or
Class of ’62 Fund, Carle Place High School, Carle Place, NY 11514.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
