Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Bill later relocated with his parents to Lodi, Ohio, where he attended Lodi High School. In 1948, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1968 as a Storekeeper Chief Petty Officer (SKC). A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Bill went on to enjoy retirement in his favorite spot in Herford, NC, where he spent many years hosting family for holidays and summers on the Perquimans River.

Beyond his service and community work, he passed down a love of his favorite hobbies– restoring old cars, enjoying camping adventures with his family, and finding treasures while thrifting.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his children, Roderick Manke (Geneva), Michael Manke, and Susan Williams (Danny); his grandchildren, Lisa Zeeveld (Mike), William Saxon Jr., Katie Manke, Joseph Manke (Shannon), Gina Zink (Andrew), Ashlee Williams, Daniel Manke Jr., Kelsie Madison (Randy), Taylor Manke (Taylor); and great-grandchildren, Jacob Zeeveld, Katelyn Zeeveld, Charlotte Manke, Adelyn Manke, Ryan Manke, Levi Madison, Emerson Madison, Lucas Manke, and Levi Manke.
