James E. Schroeder, affectionately known to many as “Jimbo,” passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Williamsburg, Virginia, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.
Born on November 1, 1948, in Norfolk, Virginia, Jimbo was a man who never met a stranger. His warm personality and genuine love for people made him a friend to all. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose family meant the world to him.
Jimbo’s passions were as vibrant as his spirit. An avid football fan, he held a special place in his heart for the Washington Commanders. In his younger days, he played drums in an R&B cover band called Hang 5 Mann, performing in Virginia Beach and North Carolina during the 1960s and early 1970s. Jimbo also cherished the simple joys of life, such as spending time at the beach and observing the squirrels and birds that visited his yard.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Reginald E. Schroeder and Margaret Schroeder. Jimbo leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted wife and partner of 21 years, Theresa Barksdale; his stepdaughter, Elaina Barksdale; his sons, Brian, Eric, and Jason Schroeder; his daughter, Lori Schroeder; his grandchildren, Cameron and Haley Schroeder; and his great-grandchild, Lennon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, located at 118 Old York-Hampton Highway, Yorktown, Virginia, 23692. Family and friends are invited to gather at 12 PM, with the service beginning at 1 PM.
Jimbo’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unwavering zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
