Carol Ann Larsen McCarthy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Virginia Beach, VA on 1 September 2025. She was born in Winthrop, MA on 13 January 1942.
Carol was a receptionist for an insurance company in Winthrop. She was the proud mother of three children and five grandchildren. She was a joiner and enjoyed belonging to several social
organizations. Among them was the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Assembly of MA. She was twice Worthy Matron of Lynnhaven Chapter and Colonial Chapter in Virginia Beach and Winthrop. Her proudest position was Grand Marshall of the Rebekah Assembly. In addition, she was a Grand Officer for the O.E.S. in Virginia.
She was very proud of her Norwegian-American heritage as an active member of the Hampton Roads Sons of Norway. She was learning the Norwegian language and proudly wore her Norwegian bunad every opportunity that was given to her. One of her Christmas traditions was baking a variety of Norwegian cookies. Tiny Norwegian flags always adorned the Christmas tree proudly watched over by a collection of trolls and Grampa Nisse.
She was predeceased by her parents, Morten Lund Larsen Sr. of Grimstad and Marie Kristensen of Forsund, Norway; her brother, Morten Lund Larsen Jr. and his wife, Joan; and her sister, Lillian Marcy and her husband, Forrest.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Edward; her three daughters: Karen Deane, Vickie Ammons (Matt), and Sandra Keith (Rick); and five grandchildren: Sarah Ammons, Kaitlin Ammons, Jordan Keith, Cameron Keith, and Alexis Keith.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on 12 September 2025, at St. Francis Episcopal Church located at 509 S. Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach.
