Laurie Jean Pietrowski Cooper, born on March 21, 1956, in Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 69, after battling a long illness.
Laurie was a dedicated and compassionate individual who touched the lives of many through her work and personal passions. A proud graduate of Hampton High School, class of 1974, she went on to serve her community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in her younger years, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to helping others.
Professionally, Laurie was associated with the Law Firm of Barrett, Daffin, Frappier, where she was known for her diligence and integrity. Her colleagues and clients alike respected her for her professionalism and dedication.
Laurie’s greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved granddaughters, Angelina Tijerina, Gabriella Tijerina, and Ashlyn Hanna. She cherished every moment with them, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever. Laurie also found peace and happiness at her brother’s river house, where she enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of nature. She was known for her humor and fun personality. She loved making people laugh.
She is preceded in death by her father, Eugene Pietrowski Sr., her mother, Doris Pietrowski, and her brother, Eugene “JR” Pietrowski Jr.
Laurie is survived by her devoted husband and caregiver, Chuck Cooper; her loving daughter, Ryan Hanna, and her husband Chris of El Campo, Texas; her sister, Joyce Widlacki of Newport News, Virginia; her brother, Paul Pietrowski Sr., and his wife Sara of Deltaville, Virginia; her sister-in-law, Cheri Cooper of Columbia, Maryland; her step-son, Rick Dokos, and his wife Charity and their children of Daytona Beach, Florida; as well as one niece, three nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of Laurie’s life will be held at a later date, where family and close friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate the remarkable life she led.
Laurie’s warmth, kindness, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of compassion and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
