Dinah Cleaton Fowlkes, of Virginia Beach, Va went to be with the lord on Sunday, October 12th, 2025. Dinah was born in Richmond, Va on July 1st, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Preston Cleaton, and Ann Hitchcock Cleaton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Arthur Fowlkes, Jr.
Dinah got to experience growing up in rural Dinwiddie, Va, and as a young adult, attended college at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. During college, she would spend summers working in Virginia Beach, Va at which time she met her husband, Hubert Arthur Fowlkes, Jr.
Dinah was a teacher by profession. She taught elementary education and was passionate about ensuring her students had the foundational skills for success.
Dinah was rooted in her faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She loved her family and friends dearly and was quick to lend an attentive ear and encouraging words.
Dinah is survived by her two sons, Hugh Fowlkes III and Nathaniel Heath Fowlkes and his wife Kristen; her three granddaughters, Lillie, Emilia, and Maisie Fowlkes; her brother, Preston Cleaton, Jr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Fowlkes’ life will be held at 11am on Saturday, Nov. 8th, 2025, at the Colonial Baptist Church at 2221 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
