David R. Cannon, M.D.
September 29, 1942 – October 30, 2025
David R. Cannon, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on October 30th, 2025. Born in Covington, Kentucky, on September 29, 1942, he was the son of the late Louis K. and Rita S. Cannon.
A dedicated and respected physician, Dave graduated from Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, before earning his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He went on to have a distinguished 35-year career as a radiologist with Radiology Associates of Southern Indiana. Known for his clinical insight, ethical rigor, and warmth toward patients and colleagues, he helped establish the region’s first Women’s Diagnostic Center and Medicare-approved screening mammography program.
Outside of medicine, Dave was an avid reader with a lifelong fascination for science and the natural world. He explored subjects ranging from particle physics to paleoanthropology with the same curiosity that defined his medical career. A committed member of the U.S. Masters Swimming program for more than three decades, he valued the discipline and calm that swimming brought him. He was also an enthusiastic golfer and a devoted supporter of the University of Louisville Cardinals.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than fifty years, Gail Cannon; his sons, Michael (Amy) and Benjamin (Jennifer); and his cherished grandchildren, Owen, Ellis, Barrett, and Brooke. He is also survived by his siblings, Dennis, Dale, Martha, and Timothy Cannon.
Dave’s family and friends will remember him as a kind and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a respected physician in his community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
