Ralph Christopher Nuss, known to many of us as Chris, of Chesapeake, Virginia—formerly of Laurel, Montana—passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. He was a devoted husband, proud and loving father, and cherished son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.
Chris honorably served his country in the United States Navy for many years, until his retirement. His commitment, integrity, and strength were evident both in uniform and at home. Above all, Chris was deeply dedicated to his family. Being a loving husband and father was the greatest role of his life, and he carried it with pride and unconditional love.
Chris lived his life on his own terms with strength, kindness, and an unwavering sense of duty to those he loved. His presence brought security, laughter, and steady comfort to everyone around him. He will be remembered for his no-nonsense honesty, loyalty, and the way he showed love through quiet, steadfast action every day.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Yoko; his cherished son, Kenshin; his loving mother, Nadine; his brother, Jim; his sister, Anjuli; and many extended family members who will forever hold him close in their hearts and miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; his grandparents; and other beloved family members who welcomed him home.
A celebration of Chris’s life, with military honors, will be held at Yellowstone National Cemetery at a later date. Friends and family are invited to share their condolences and memories online at www.vacremationsociety.com (http://www.vacremationsociety.com/).
Through God’s grace, and through His Son Jesus, Chris has crossed from protector on earth to a guardian in heaven. With his strength restored and his spirit made whole, he now keeps faithful watch beside his father and all who went before him—forever guarding the family and friends he so deeply cherished, and even the strangers he will someday greet with heaven’s restored grace.
