Gregory I. Guin, age 66 of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday December 14,2025. He was born on October 13,1959 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Weldon “Douglas” Guin and Jane Guin.
He graduated from Menchville High School in 1978. Greg was well known in the area for his baseball talent. Playing for teams like the Warwick Moose Little League and Pony League, and American legion Post 25 where he broke many records and received many awards for his baseball accomplishments. He was offered a full baseball scholarship to Clemson University, a place in which he loved. While at Clemson he also received many awards including All ACC Selection, MVP, College World Series appearance to name a few. In the summer college years, he would play for the Winchester Royals, Winchester, Virginia. In 1981 he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 12th round. He made his way up the ranks to AAA playing for teams of the Erie Cardinals, Arkansas Travelers and Louisville Redbirds. His winters were spent playing in the Caribbean Winter League for Cardenales De Lara in Venezuela. In 1982 he was asked to be a designated hitter for Leones Del Caracus in the Caribbean Winter League World Series where he hit a walk off double to help the team win the game. He ended his career in 1984 due to injury. Greg worked many years for Piedmont Air (US Air), Mike Tyndall’s Custom Decks & Privacy Fences , and Dodd RV in Yorktown, VA selling hundreds of RV’s where he retired in 2023.
While Greg had many accomplishments in his baseball career one of his biggest accomplishments was the birth of his daughter Hannah Guin. She was his pride and joy.
Greg married the love of his life Melissa Guin on April 9, 2022, where they live in Gloucester, VA .
He loved watching baseball and telling his stories about his times playing the game. He found joy in fishing, music and traveling sharing many adventures with his wife, Melissa and daughter Hannah including memorable trips to the Bahamas; Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Clemson, South Carolina to show where his days were spent on the baseball field. On many spring and summer days you could find him riding on his John Deere tractor daydreaming. He was loved by many people and always shared his love for his daughter Hannah and his wife Melissa (his MO).
He is survived by his wife Melissa and daughter Hannah, his beloved cats Clem, Mizmo & little dog Petey. His siblings Monty (Sharon) Guin of Newport News, VA; Norman Guin of Myrtle Beach, SC and numerous nieces & nephews.
Services will be held at the Warwick Moose Lodge on Sunday January 11,2026 at 2:00pm. Warwick Moose Lodge 1711 Warwick Moose Lane, Newport News, VA 23606
