Peggy Brewington, 88, of Virginia Beach passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Peggy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 23, 1937 to William J. Fowler and Margaret Kaler Fowler. She married John Brewington in 1954 in Rockland, Maine, and they shared 63 years of marriage together until John’s passing in 2018.
Peggy is survived by her children, John Brewington Jr., Allen Brewington, Jane Cummings, Robert Brewington, Michael Brewington and Kevin Brewington, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a cherished group of friends that have become family.
Peggy is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret; her father, William; her sister, Pat; her brother, Bill; her husband, John; and her son, Raymond.
In her youth, Peggy was an award-winning roller skater and dazzled audiences with her talent on wheels. She graduated from Virginia Beach Adult Learning Center in 1975. Peggy and John had seven children together, whom she raised and devoted her life to. Her value as a homemaker was incredibly important to her. She was a person who gave all of herself to others and did everything in her power to provide unconditional love to all the people in her life.
Peggy jumped at every opportunity to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 U.S. states. She was also a professional cake decorator and hobbyist baker who made miraculous cakes and other goodies for all her children and grandchildren’s birthday parties, weddings, and local events. She was a life-long quilter, sewer, and an award-winning member of the Tidewater Quilter’s Guild. She loved making blankets and quilts for her family, friends, church mates, and community members in need. Peggy was also a devout Catholic and member of the Church of the Ascension where she took pride in being a long-time volunteer.
Peggy lived a long life with a mission of spreading warmth and love to all those she met along the way. She will be remembered as a kind soul who always had an open heart, open arms, and provided unconditional love to her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. In her final years, Peggy was blessed with a wonderful team of people to care for her to which we are eternally grateful.
A service to honor Peggy’s life will be held at the Church of the Ascension (4853 Princess Anne Rd) on January 15th at 1:00 pm.
