Monica Roselle Des Jarlais, a cherished mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 72. Born on November 30, 1953, in Waialua, Hawaii, Monica lived a life marked by dedication to her family and her vocation as an educator.
Monica devoted her career to nurturing young minds as an educator in Catholic Schools, where she was known for her compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment to her students’ growth. Her passion for education was matched only by her love for her family, with whom she shared countless cherished moments.
Monica found immense joy in spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughters. She was a talented baker and cook, often bringing her family together with her delicious creations and warm hospitality.
She earned a Master’s Degree, a testament to her dedication to learning and self-improvement, values she imparted to those around her.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia Franks. She is survived by her daughters, Julia Des Jarlais of Bremerton, WA, and Monique Des Jarlais of Hampton, VA; her sisters, Veronica Witt of Green Bay, WI, Regina Sano of Gurnee, IL, and Bernadette Franks-Ongoy of Helena, MT; and her cherished granddaughters, Kenya Davis and Chanel Des Jarlais of Bremerton, WA, and Reaghan Westbay of Hampton, VA.
Monica’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
