Suffolk, VA – Brenton Erasko Lassiter, 74, affectionately known as “Brent” or “Peanut,” went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2026, at his home. Born on April 8, 1951, in Sunbury, North Carolina, Brent was a cherished son, brother, partner, and friend.
Brent spent his career working with dedication at the Planters Peanut Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and camaraderie with colleagues. Outside of work, Brent had a passion for gardening and enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to his yard with care and pride.
A spiritual man, Brent found joy and companionship in playing cards and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. His warm spirit and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Brent was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Russell Edward Lassiter and Etta Bonds Lassiter. He is survived by his devoted life partner of 23 years, Sonita White; three loving sisters, Barbara A. Jones of Sunbury, NC, Celestine Wilkins of Suffolk, VA, and Marion Goodman and her husband Elton of Waterbury, CT. Brent also leaves behind two cherished step-daughters, Shamika White and Shannon White, along with five adored step-grandchildren: Diarra, Terrance, O’Lana, Aviana, and Tristan; faithful nephew, Conrad Lassiter; a very close special friend, Rico Johnson; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will keep his memory alive.
A celebration of Brent’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, 12 noon, at Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church in Suffolk, VA, with Pastor Robert A. Wilkins officiating. The Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family during this difficult time.
