Marian June Sortino, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 97. Born on May 29, 1928, in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, Marian lived a life full of love, dedication, and hard work.
Marian was known for her warm heart and generous spirit. She spent much of her career in the restaurant industry, where she owned and operated her own establishment. Her passion for serving others extended beyond her professional life, as she was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word with those around her. Marian was a woman with a lot of advice to be given to anybody she knew or met.
In addition to her work, Marian had a deep love for gardening and reading. She found joy in nurturing her plants and could often be found with a book in hand, exploring new worlds through literature. Her garden was a testament to her patience and care, much like the relationships she cultivated throughout her life.
Marian pursued a business degree, which she applied with great success in her entrepreneurial endeavors. Her determination and intelligence were evident in all she did, inspiring those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sortino; Her parents, Carl and Jennie Johnson; her brothers, Jack, Emil, Ken, Ed, Archie, Ellis, and Howard; and her sister, Theresa. Marian is survived by her loving children, Linda Kenwood, Janice, Bill, and Bob; her cherished grandchildren, Nick, Russell, Scott, Maddie, Jonathan, and Kimberly; and her dear sisters, Betty and Nancy.
Marian’s legacy of kindness, strength, and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
