NICHOLAS ALAN LOCKWOOD, born on February 23, 1980, in Yokota, Japan, passed away at the age of 45 on November 24, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia. Although Nicholas faced many physical and mental challenges throughout his lifetime, he embraced life with an indomitable spirit and an infectious joy that inspired everyone around him.
Nicholas’s journey through life was marked by a profound love all types of music, especially the works of his favorite artist, Sydnie Christmas, whose voice he found very mesmerizing and brought him much joy. He found immense pleasure in going on long trips in the car, going for long walks around the neighborhood, and he loved backyard picnics, family gatherings for special holidays and family birthdays. As a youngster, he loved to play pranks on his younger brothers. His radiant smile would light up any room, and his love for his family was boundless. Every day was a good day for Nicholas and he approached life with unyielding determination and positivity.
He cherished time spent with his brothers, Anthony Scott Lockwood and Michael Aaron Lockwood, and found delight in family gatherings, where hearing his name brought him great joy. Nicholas had a special fondness for stuffed animals, especially furry ones with long arms, legs, and tails, which were some of his favorite playthings. Birthdays were always a highlight for him, as he loved the “Happy Birthday” song, delighting in its melody and he always thought every birthday song was being sung just for him.
Nicholas is now running freely with the loved ones who passed before him, and he finally gets to see the loving faces of all his family, free from pain and full of joy. He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Gary Lee Abbott, his maternal grandmother, Jessie Dora Bruley, his step-grandmother, Martha Jean Abbott, his grandfathers, Raymond Bruley and Jack Kenneth Lockwood, Sr., uncles Allan Bruley and Jeffrey Lockwood, his aunts, Mary Jacqueline Wolters and Vickie Owens.
He leaves behind his loving mother, Robin Ann Abbott, father Jack Kenneth Lockwood, Jr., (Sultan), his brothers Anthony Scott Lockwood (Karri), Michael Aaron Lockwood (Cassidy), Bradford Abbott, and sisters, Jennifer Lockwood, Melissa Lockwood, and Yasmine Lockwood (Joe), his paternal grandmother, Jeanette Lockwood, along with countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, caregivers, and friends who were touched by his exuberant spirit.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Five Star Residential, Inc., and the Five Star Residential Day Care Center for their unwavering support and care for Nicholas over the past 11 years. Additionally, the family extends special thanks to the doctors, nurses and care providers at Riverside Regional Medical Center and Riverside Hospice for the love and care shown to Nicholas during his final illness.
Nicholas’s legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew him, reminding us to embrace each day with a smile and cherish the moments we have with our loved ones.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Nicholas Alan Lockwood, will be held on February 23, 2026, at 10:00 o’clock a.m., Hilton Christian Church, 100 James River Drive, Newport News, Virginia 23601.
