Maria Majella Bateman, born on January 17, 1978, in the Philippines, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 48. Her journey was marked by grace, love, and an unwavering dedication to her family and passions.
Maria’s life was a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Despite the battle with cancer, she faced every challenge with courage and an inspiring smile that could light up a room. Known for her easygoing nature, Maria was a private individual who cherished the moments spent with her loved ones.
Her career with the Navy Exchange Command in customer service showcased her commitment and dedication to helping others. However, her true calling was being a mother. Her children were her world, and she took immense pride in being their guiding light. Maria’s love for reading allowed her to explore countless worlds beyond her own, and her passion for sightseeing and traveling filled her life with rich experiences and beautiful memories.
Maria is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Percival and Lourdes Buenviaje. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 13 years, James Bateman; her son, James “Carter” Bateman; and her daughter, Maya Bateman. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and her legacy will continue through them.
