Marilyn Jean Rivera, born on March 16, 1953, in the serene landscapes of North Dakota, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 73.
Marilyn was a dedicated tax professional at H&R Block, where she served her clients with diligence and care. Her meticulous nature and attention to detail were evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal passions. She had a profound love for sewing and quilting, spending countless hours crafting beautiful pieces that brought joy to those around her. As a cherished member of the Peninsula Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Marilyn found a community that shared her enthusiasm for the art of quilting.
In addition to her love for crafting, Marilyn adored cats, finding comfort and companionship in their presence. Her gentle spirit and nurturing heart were felt by all who knew her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David L. Rivera, and her parents, Edgar and Hazel Seitz. She is survived by her loving son, Tristan, and his wife Stephanie, as well as her treasured grandsons, Larry, Ryker, and Nevin. Marilyn also leaves behind her dear sister Barb, and brothers Dan and John, who will all miss her deeply.
Private services will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who touched so many with her kindness and creativity.
Marilyn’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the beautiful quilts she crafted with love and care.
