Constance (Connie) Viola List Hoff, a beloved wife and mother, passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Born to Henry and Viola List in Brooklyn, NY, on July 10, 1939. Constance and her sister, Christine, grew up in a house on Avenue R in the Flatbush neighborhood.
Connie graduated from James Madison High School, where she met her future husband, Walter Mathias Hoff. She was the first woman in her family to attend college, where she earned an Associate Degree in Secretarial Skills from Brooklyn College in 1959. She married Walter in 1960, took on the role of a Navy wife, and moved around a bit while he completed his active military service. Once he left active duty, they moved to Greensboro, NC, then Warwick, NY, and finally Virginia Beach, VA, where they lived for the past 48 years.
Connie was very creative. Over the years, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, macrame, quilling, just to name a few. She was big on supporting family and often hosted extended family members who were passing through on long trips or fell upon hard times. She also ran what was affectionately called “Camp Connie” for her nieces, nephews, and grandkids to stay over for a week or two in the summertime. To say she loved her family is an understatement.
Connie was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach, VA, for over 40 years, where she served in a variety of roles, such as Church Council Member, Church Secretary, Choir, LWML, Altar Guild, and Sunday School Teacher.
Connie is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Viola, her sister, Christine, and her husband, Walter. Connie (aka Mormor) Hoff is survived by her three children: Jennifer (Victor) Perrotti, Jeanette (Mark) Grenda, and Christopher (Kay) Hoff, seven grandchildren – Sophia (Rob), Miranda, Christiana (Kyle), Celeste (Chris), Dean (Madison), Gustavo (Kiki), and Ethan as well as one great grandson, Quincy. She was an extraordinary woman, a friend to many and beloved by her family.
A memorial service to honor Constance Hoff’s life will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 10 am, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (424 Kings Grant Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452).
