Malcolm Maye was born on April 12, 1957, to the late Lolar M. Washington Maye and Eugene Maye of Lenoir County, North Carolina.
On May 6, 2026, Malcolm departed his earthly home and entered heaven through the pearly gates at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.
Malcolm was educated in the Lenoir County Public School System. At a young age, he joined Holly Grove Free Will Baptist Church located in LaGrange, North Carolina, where he became a member of the church choir. After finishing school, Malcolm proudly served his country in the United States Army. Upon his return home, he reunited with his church family and later directed the youth choir.
Malcolm was a jokester who truly loved people. He enjoyed signing, dancing and making things look aesthetically pleasing. He had a passion for serving others and worked throughout his community as a caterer, florist, server, gardener, and interior decorator. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
A few years after the passing of is mother, Malcolm moved to New York to join his siblings, where he met the love of his life in Schenectady, New York. He also became a father figure to his baby sister’s children while she worked, helping guide and support them with love and care.
In 2000, he met his beloved Agnes Salisbury in Schenectady, New York, who preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory a special daughter, Natasha Garrett; four sisters: Barbara Harris (Willie) of Vanceboro, North Carolina, Evelyn Weis and Vanessa Lewis of Hampton, Virginia, and Lasheque Beauford (Charles) of Clifton Park, New York; three special sisters of Kinston, North Carolina: Grace, Reggie, and Laura Barrett; three brothers: Ronald Maye of Schenectady, New York, Alton Maye of Kinston, North Carolina, and Carlton Maye of Schenectady, New York; a special brother, Carol Barrett of Fayetteville, North Carolina; three aunts: Earnestine Johnson (Benjamin) of Dallas, Georgia; Flora Grimes of Detroit, Michigan, and Cathy Washington of the District of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, other relatives and friends.
