With great grace and dignity, Michael Jeffrey “Jeff” Bacon, was called Home by Jesus on Monday, June 1st, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at his residence in Virginia Beach.
Always a fighter, always finding the joy even amidst his pain, always reminding his family just how much he loved them – Jeff was a mischief-maker, a storyteller, a teacher, a husband, a father, a Pappy, a mentor, a friend, and so much more. He had a word of encouragement, a joke, a smile, or a combination of them all for anyone he met.
Jeff followed his calling into ministry for a small church in The Colony, Texas for almost a decade, and he continued preaching the Gospel wherever he went for the rest of his Life. He wanted nothing more than for everyone to also know the love and grace of our Heavenly Father.
Apart from his great love for the Lord, Jeff was a proud Marine who served his country for seven years. He also had an extensive love for carpentry, creating beautiful wood pieces and restoring antiques to their former glory. After moving to Virginia Beach he discovered a new love in fishing from his kayak. He could be seen almost every day of the week on the river, sometimes taking a snooze, but mostly fishing for those tasty catfish he loved to fry!
When the kayaking became too much for him to physically handle, Jeff didn’t let it prevent him from finding a new way to enjoy his life. He returned to an old love for pool and soon found an amazing pool hall at Q-Master Billiards. While honing his skills as “The World’s Okayest Pool Player,” he quickly made lasting connections with other patrons and the staff. He loved getting to socialize and share the Gospel all while playing his long-time favorite game.
Jeff loved his family fiercely and faithfully. He cherished his wife and truly strived to love her as Christ loves the church. He was insanely proud of his kids, bragging on them to anyone with ears. He especially doted on his precious granddaughters, Amelie and Claire Schoonover, lighting up at the sound of their laughter – his absolute favorite music! His family was his heart, his light, his music, and his joy.
He is survived by his precious mother, Margeret Bacon; his adored wife, Mary K. Bacon; his loving children: Heather Hale, Lindsey Bacon, Zachary Bacon, and Jensen Schoonover; his respected son-in-law, Eric Schoonover; his two beloved brothers, Butch and Jerry Bacon; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
We will be celebrating the beautiful, precious, creative, and fun life of Jeff’s on Sunday, June 21st, at 3:00pm EST at West Neck Village Hall in Virginia Beach. We invite all who knew and loved Jeff to join us in honoring his life.
In lieu of flowers, we are requesting that you honor Jeff’s legacy of loving the Lord and serving his country by contributing to one of the following organizations:
