Portsmouth, VA – Mary Myrtle Houltin, born on October 5, 1932, in Marshal, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in Suffolk, Virginia, at the age of 93.
Mary was a devoted homemaker who cherished her role in creating a warm and loving environment for her family. She had an extraordinary gift of gab and was known for her ability to keep in touch with family and friends through her love of conversation and note writing. Her passion for writing was a testament to her caring nature and her desire to stay connected with those she loved.
In addition to her familial devotion, Mary found joy in collecting rocks from different areas, each piece a treasured memory of places visited and experiences shared. Her love for her family was evident in all aspects of her life, and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be dearly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ethan Erwin McFarland and Dorothy Elizabeth Bean McFarland; her cherished husband, Martin Willard Houltin; her beloved daughter, Patricia Ann Samuel; two brothers, Lloyd and Robert McFarland and a sister, Bonnie Jordan.
She is survived by her two sons, Brian Houltin and Larry Sullivan; a sister, Dorrie Sullivan; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will all remember her fondly.
