Elaine Baker Comess, 81, passed away peacefully at her Chesapeake, VA home on June 6, 2026, following a long but valiant struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Weinstein, and parents Abe Comess and Naomi Baker Comess Bogstad. She is survived by her sister Patricia Padgett (Richard) of Midlothian, VA, two brothers Richard Comess (Kathy) of Ashland, VA, and Stephen Comess (Karen Knutson) of Bryn Mawr, PA; two nieces Rachelle Elaine Padgett and Laura Marshall Lowden and her children Flint, Jack and Annelise, nephew Michael Comess (Chery) and their son Mason; and stepdaughter Victoria Weinstein Cash (Eric) and their children Ethan and Jordan.
Educated at Old Dominion University, Elaine was a high school art teacher and guidance counselor, then guidance department head in the Tidewater area. In her work, she had a love for her students, wanting them to achieve their brightest future.
As a supportive daughter, Elaine always stepped up to assist her parents. She was a passionate friend, and a dedicated volunteer answering a hotline for abused women who needed shelter protection. She could always be counted on to help. She was keenly interested in people, especially children, and how she could support them. Elaine loved travel, and spending time with family who were closest to her heart. Art was always her interest, as was her not so secret adoration of Elvis Presley.
As we remember Elaine, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, filled with passion and kindness. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of crossing her path. The best big sister a family could have.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, June 27th at 2 p.m. at The Butcher’s Son, 1556 Laskin Rd. #134, Virginia Beach, Va. Please r.s.v.p. to elainecomesscelebrationoflife@gmail.com
