Alfred Benjamin Mark Hunter, a devoted family man and respected community member, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, in Carrollton, VA, at the age of 86. Born on April 2, 1940, in Albany, NY, Alfred lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and love.
A graduate of Skyler High School in Albany, Alfred went on to build a remarkable career as a Plant Manager for General Electric, where he worked tirelessly for 43 years. His colleagues remember him as a hard-working and principled leader who always put God and his family first.
Alfred was a man of deep faith, strong in his Christian beliefs, and a proud member of the Prince Hall Masons in Albany, NY. In his children’s youth, he found joy in reading at the altar every Sunday, sharing his love for the church with his family and community.
An avid fisherman, Alfred cherished the tranquility of the water, often embarking on cold-water fishing adventures and deep-sea fishing excursions. Alfred had an insatiable passion for reading, he enjoyed listening to jazz and if ever you wanted to engage in a meaningful debate…he was your guy. Yet, above all else, he loved and cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 68 years,
Shirley Hunter, whom he met and fell in love with while attending Skyler High School. Together, they built a legacy of love that would span generations. He was more than a father, he was a protector, a teacher, a companion, and the kind of father children dream of having, to his children Carla R. Eichelberger, Tonya M. Stanley, and Alfred C. Hunter (Elise).
Alfred’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Clayton E. Eichelberger (Courtney), Imani R. Eichelberger, William H. Stanley III, Benjamin A. Stanley (Ahmeir), Najja A. Hunter, Zaki C.
