Portsmouth- Judith Charlton Kelly, Mamaw to many. Born December 5, 1940, married July 5, 1957, lived a full life in Portsmouth, Va. She loved everyone she came in contact with and never met a stranger. Her loving spirit made everyone feel welcome and part of her family. She enjoyed her summers surrounded by those friends and family in Kitty Hawk, NC.

Judy passed December 14, 2017, preceded by her mother, Margaret Elizabeth Pinkerton Charlton, and father Wilbur Walton Charlton. Her surviving loved ones include husband Charles Lewis Kelly Jr.; children, Catherine Kelly Merritt and husband Dave, Kimberly Kelly, Lisa Kelly Howard and husband Todd, Charles Lewis Kelly III and wife Carrie;  adopted sons Ron Cope and Kevin Cox; grandchildren David Kerner and wife Amy, Jennifer Merritt, Kelly Jefferson and husband Eddie, Ashley Hash and husband Andrae, Melissa Merritt, Heather Howard, Zachary Howard, Ivy Kelly, and Charles Kelly IV;  great-grandchildren Adilyn Jefferson and Victor De Jesus.

Judy attended, Westhaven Elementary, Harry Hunt Jr. High and Wilson High Schools. She was a long time member of West End UMC. She was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Judy was an active volunteer in the Portsmouth community, receiving the lifetime award for her service in the Parent Teacher Association of Virginia.

In lieu of flowers donations in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at West End UMC, 1800 Rodman Ave., Portsmouth, 23707, Saturday, December 23^rd, at 11:00AM.
