Edward Henry Conway, 81, left us on October 21, 2019 after a recent prolonged illness.

Ed was born in Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C. and raised in Hampton, VA.  He was graduated from Hampton High School in 1956 and Randolph Macon College in 1966. He also earned an MBA from George Washington University in 1974.  After high school, following his father’s untimely death, Ed began working at the C&O Railroad’s Newport News coal piers. At 18 years old, he became one of the youngest Foreman to have ever worked for the C&O. Ed joined the military In 1960, starting at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Port Deposit, Maryland, and attending Basic Training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He was stationed at Fort Rucker in Alabama, before attending Randolph Macon.  Ed was introduced to the love of his life, Shirley Burch Kyle Conway (his late wife of 44 years), by her brother William Reid Kyle, Jr., who was a Randolph Macon classmate. After 24 years of service, he retired in 2003 from the James River Water Treatment Plant.

He is survived by his sister, Nancy Conway Smith (William); sisters-in-law; Ella Mae Kyle Wimer and Shirley S. Kyle (William); nieces, Dana Littlepage Smith Bagnall (Nigel) and Rebecca Wimer Carlson; nephews, William Reid Kyle, III, Christopher S. Kyle (Mari), Nevin Wimer, and Christopher Porter Smith (Aimee).

A service for friends and family will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:30 AM at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church at 500 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg, followed by a lunch.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.
