Yorktown-Danny Ray Bouldin, 55, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019. He born December 5, 1963 in Siler City, NC to Daniel and Johnsie Bouldin. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1986. He holds a state patent for a Lightweight Ballistic Protection System. His knowledge and expertise made him much sought after in the Aerospace community.

Always seeking out new and interesting opportunities, he had worked all over the country on many U.S. military and space contracts. Notably at the famed Skunk Works in Palmdale, CA. Most recently he was employed with Calspan in Newport News, VA.

Danny was an avid outdoorsman and loved to camp. He will be remembered for the love and care he always showed to his wife, children, extended family and anyone else he came across. He delighted in making us laugh and popping out Monty Python quotes. We will miss his smile, his gentle manners and his BBQ skills. He was truly our Boy Scout.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and sister-in-law.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Morgan of Yorktown, VA; five daughters, Meagan (Michael) and Hannah of Huntsville, AL, Victoria and Bailey of Yorktown, VA and Calla (Ricky) of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Michael of Athens, AL and Matthew of Camden, DE; two sisters, Lana Boyd and Amy (Eugene) of Bennett, NC; extended family, Wayne, Mary and Drew Sharpe of Lady Lake, FL and Abby Gearhart (James) of Barhamsville, VA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the York-Poquoson Sheriffs office, York County Fire and Life Safety, their postal carrier and the staff and doctors of Riverside Regional Medical Center Emergency Department and MICU. Your compassion and caring have meant the world to us at this most difficult time.

As his last act as a Boy Scout, he was an organ donor. His death is already saving other lives. Please consider organ donation if have not already.

A reception will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Hall, 7812 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA.

I worked with Danny on multiple airframe systems back in the day, and was always grateful for his input and advice. For years, after we took different career paths, we more than infrequently found time for lunch and to talk shop. Please know I'm praying for your family, thankful for the memories with Danny.

RIP Danny, I learned a lot in the short time we worked together.

I'm sorry for our loss. I went to CCHS and NCSU with Danny and we commuted between Bennett and Raleigh often. I always enjoyed our time together.

I worked with Danny many years ago at DEI. He was someone you could really count on. My condolences on your loss. It is a loss for all of us.

I was also in the 1982 graduating class of CCHS with Danny. He was always greeting you with a smile. I pray God wraps his comforting arms around his family and friends.

My heart fell sad to hear about the passing of Danny. I went to school with Danny from first grade through grade 12. Everyone who knew Danny knew that he would one day achieve all the wonderful things that are posted above for he truly was brillant. But even greater than his brilliance was his kindness. I have not seen him since we graduated from Chatham Central in 1982, but his wonderful smile and loving personality are forever imprinted on my heart. I know that he was a wonderful husband and great father and I know how much he will be missed, but just remember that nothing loved is ever lost, and I know he was loved soo much. Ah, Danny, you will surely be missed. You were and still are I'm sure, one of those true angels walking amongst us. Biggest heart I've ever known yet you and "Morgie" lived nearby for such a short time. Those memories of fun and family potlucks and life's simple joys with you and Morgan will always be treasured. It was my privilege to work with Danny over the last year at Calspan in Newport News, VA. What a wonderful and brilliant man. Danny had worked in this organization as a young aerospace engineer many years ago; it was so great to have him back. I can't think of another person who could have fitted in so quickly, made so many friends and contributed so much to an extremely challenging technical project. I am so saddened by the news of Danny's death - my heart goes out to Morgan, his family and all his many friends around the country who are reeling from this loss. RIP Danny.

My heart splintered when I got this heart rending news. I graduated with Danny from Chatham Central High School in Bear Creek, North Carolina in 1982. We both had much bigger dreams than our little town could contain. For the entire 4 years we competed academically and often checked our GPAs together. Danny eased ahead of me in our last semester of school. In all honesty, I was thrilled to be salutatorian to his valedictorian. Danny was brilliant, and I felt blessed to be compared to him. I also appreciated that he “got me” at a time when belonging and being understood was critical. I fondly remember teasing Danny about becoming a rocket scientist one day and fully expecting that he would. However, what I remember most about Danny beyond his stellar intelligence was his gentle and kind nature. He was an authentically good person, and we all benefited from his example. I send my most heartfelt and sincere condolences to Danny’s wife and children. May God bless you and hold you in His loving arms at this difficult time.

I worked with Danny at DEI many years ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see him back with Calspan recently. He was always smiling and in a good mood. Condolences to his family and friends during this time of mourning.

Danny will always be remembered as my best friend! He was always so nice and caring for others. He put his happiness after everyone’s! He made sure everyone around him most of the time was always laughing and smiling! I’ll remember him as the great man who I’ve grown to know and love as my best friend!
