Mary Shifflett Via ,79, originally from Albemarle County, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on April 15,2020. She was born July 16,1940 in Charlottesville Virginia to the late Albert and Bessie Shifflett . She joins her husband, of 59 years, William Via in heaven after only a few short weeks from his passing.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sonia Grant and her son-in-law, Chris Grant; grandson, Christopher Grant and his fiancée, Macaleigh Richardson; a sister, Doris (Robert) Gibson; brother, Freddy(Sandra) Shifflett and brother, Danny (Marion) Shifflett and a host of nieces and nephews. She also joins in heaven many brothers and sisters and their spouses whom she dearly missed.

She spent her final years at the home of her daughter’s family per her wishes and will be greatly missed as she had become part of their daily lives.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Riverside Hospice and Bay Aging for helping them take such good care of “Mary Lucy” so that she could remain at home with her family.

In light of the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus, a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date when it is safe for friends and family to gather and comfort each other from the loss of a great couple.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.
