Joey Bryant passed away on August 20, 2020 at age 62. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Bryant; brother, Ricky Bryant; sister-in-law, Victoria Riley; and his best friend, Jerry Fields.
If Joey got a day off, he spent it hunting or fishing. Joey was a lifetime member of The Fairfield Hunt Club. There, he, Jerry Fields and Jerry’s son, Rabbit would hunt every weekend.
During a short stint in the Army, Joey became a diesel mechanic. After learning that trade, there wasn’t much that Joey couldn’t fix. He could drop a motor, fix it and put it back in a matter of no time. Outboard motors were his specialty. Having had previous issues with his own boats, he could tell you what was wrong with yours. His opinion was valued.
Joey’s daddy taught him a trade as a painter and because of that, he traveled extensively, applying his talent as a painter from The Hood Canal in Washington State to the bayous of Mississippi, where he lived with alligators in his backyard. He eventually returned home to Dare, Virginia to work for Main Industries, where he painted the mightiest warships in the world. Working with Joey was definitely a learning experience. Joey had a great sense of humor. Even towards the end he could make you laugh.
Joey will be greatly missed by all especially by his mother, Sarah Hogge; sister, Sandra Driver; brother, Randy Hogge; daughter, Rachel Hoyt; brother-in-law, Gary Driver; two grandchildren; all of his cousins, nieces, nephews, and of course, all of the extended family at the farm.
We have lost a brother.
Fair winds and following seas.
