Chesapeake ~ Elmer Barton Cutherell, 94, passed away peacefully in the home that he built on December 16, 2020. Left to cherish his memory is daughters; Theresa Emry, Dorothy Lassiter and Gail Wallace; grandchildren Ricky Lassiter, Lisa Lassiter, Johnathan Barton Emry, Jeremy Emry, and Danial Wallace. Elmer is predeceased by his wife of 60 years Dorothy S. Cutherell.

Elmer had a passion for gardening and building. He had a quiet nature and was very respected by his friends and family. He was a military veteran of 21 years. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. A private family graveside service will be held with full honors at a later date.

I remember Uncle Elmer for being a kind and caring person. He played an important role in my sister Ruth's decision to join the Coast Guard. We shared an interest in Cutherell family history in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake going back many generations. I treasure the pictures that I have of Uncle Elmer and Aunt Dorothy's various horses, goats, and geese, as well as their amazing blackberry bushes.
